Creating a Blog

“SquareSpace Snackables” is a regular series for clients who want to quickly implement DIY solutions or updates to their website. For Matilti, it’s important to be a resource, not roadblock, to my clients’ progress.

In this latest Snackable post, you will learn how to create and publish (or schedule) a blog in eight quick steps. Watch the video and subscribe. Now, let’s jump into it. Watch the video or follow the instructions below.

Step 1: Log In

Go to Squarespace.com and log into your account.
Choose the site you want to add your blog to from your dashboard.

Step 2: Navigate to Pages

On the left-hand menu, click 'Pages.'
This is where all your content lives—your homepage, about page, services, etc.

Step 3: Add a New Blog Page

Click the '+' icon next to either 'Main Navigation' or 'Not Linked'—wherever you want your blog to show up.
Choose 'Blog' as the page type.
Give it a name like “Blog,” “News,” or “Insights.”

Boom—your blog page is live.

Step 4: Customize the Blog Page Design

Click into the blog page and select 'Edit.'
You can change the layout, background, spacing, or even add an intro section.
Choose a format that fits your style—stacked, grid, or chronological.

Step 5: Write Your First Blog Post

• Click “+” or “New Post.”

• Add a title, your blog content, and optional images or video.

• You can style your text with headers, bullets, and bold—just like any word processor.

• Need visuals? Click the '+' inside the post to add media blocks.

  • Choose the Image block, then, the Add an Image button. From here you can upload your own imagery or browse the free stock images.

  • Stock images is free and simple to use. In the search bar, enter a term, then find a photo and select “Add Image.” While you’re at it, change the filename and Image Alt Text fields with a keyword such as, “Acme Construction – [blog topic].”

  • You can also choose the reformat the logo – (show some examples).

    Once your blog is ready, click on Exit and save your changes.

Step 6: Optimize for SEO

Click the three dots icon next to your post title and choose Settings.
Here, you can add an SEO title, description, and edit your URL slug.
Also add tags and categories to help readers find your content.

If you are planning to share it on your socials, then, add a Social Image. This time, choose, “Select From Library,” and use one of the images from your blog.

Step 7: Publish or Schedule

You can publish it right away or schedule it for later. I love the Publish feature because it gives me the flexibility to publish content automatically if I’m following an editorial calendar.
Or you can simply hit publish right away to post it. When you're ready, click 'Done' and choose “Save & Publish.”

Step 8: Promote Your Post

Now that it’s live, promote your blog:
- Share the link on social media
- Add it to your email newsletter
- Link to it from other pages on your site
